I’m feeling sobered and aware after completing phase one of pre-planning my year for 2023.

Do You Like to Plan?

Are you a recap your year woman who reflects on your wins and whoopsies? Or, do you hate looking back and prefer to forge ahead toward better days? Reflection can be an important part of understanding your patterns. You know how we wonder “how did I get here?” or “why does this keep happening?” Reflecting gives us clues. Women who plan without reflecting first, can be setting themselves up for

Reflect First Before Planning

After I listed my wins in my business and personal life, I noted my losses and lessons learned. It was so healing to write what I learned from my losses so that I could see where I need to better focus my efforts for next year.

It was also hard to swallow the fact that I was winning at a fitness/health goal and reversed the progress when I gave into emotional eating due to a family tragedy. That freaking sucks to recognize how one simple choice repeated over time sabotaged all my efforts. Darn it! When I reflect on the crisis, I own the fact that I did the best I could; but now, I have more self-care support resources in place for the next time so I’m not white-knuckling it and drowning.

Interrupt the Corrupt Patterns of the Past

How do you see your losses or do you avoid the pain of coming to terms with them? I’m the queen of reframe and I heard my inner cheerleader chirp up during the reflection exercise saying “you can only get to excellence by going through the learning and missteps; so, there really is no true failure”. However, there is power in recognizing which patterns need to be reconstructed or else I’ll just keep searing those wayward habits deeper into my brain.

Assess Your Skillset and Plan Accordingly

Maybe the 50 something reality is setting in. I don’t like to say that I’m running out of time. I’d rather say that I need to be more intentional with my time and be proactive in removing any activities that are not instrumental in supporting the achievement of my definite aim.

One priceless lesson I learned today was that a longstanding, unmet monetary goal was an absolute impossible goal all these years! Did you hear me? I’ve beat myself up for almost a decade for not achieving this goal which was utterly ridiculous without having the skill required to earn it.

Excellence Takes Time

It’s not possible to skip steps in excellence; the work must be done consistently and repeatedly. There is no substitute for dedicated time put in on a skill. I was sobered by my realization and let out a huge sigh of relief – HAAAAAAAA! I didn’t or couldn’t possess the expertise until I developed my “stripes” – aha!

Know When to Hire A Professional

How about you? What goal are you missing the mark on without recognizing all that’s required to become who you need to be in order to achieve it? If we’re not honest with ourselves, then we won’t see the lessons or opportunities to get the support we need. I hired a professional to help me acquire the skills for my goal and have made strides this year that I’m truly proud of. This growth could not have occurred on my own because I couldn’t see my own blind spots. I also don’t know what I don’t know.
